Blackjack is a card game played between the player and the dealer. The goal is straightforward: get a hand total closer to 21 than the dealer's, without going over 21 (known as a "bust"). Here are the card values in blackjack:

Once bets are placed, the dealer deals two cards to each player and two to themselves (one face up, one face down). Players then choose from several available actions:

  • Hit (Take a Card) — Request one more card to improve your hand total.
  • Stand — Keep your current hand and let the dealer play out their turn.
  • Double Down — Double your original bet and receive exactly one additional card.
  • Split — If you have two cards of equal value, split them into two separate hands.
  • Surrender — In some variants, you may surrender and reclaim half of your bet.
  • Insurance — If the dealer's up-card is an Ace, you may place a side bet against the possibility of the dealer hitting Blackjack.

If your hand total beats the dealer's without exceeding 21, you win and are paid 1:1.
